ἡ λέξις τῆς ἡμέρας (ια’) – Ancient Greek Word of the Day (11)

December 28, 2021 by Jenny

τὸ πρόβατον, -ου – a sheep (mostly pl.: τὰ πρόβατα, which can also mean: “sheep and goats”)

Sheep are tame animals. The are called like this (pro-baton) because they always „go forward“ (pro-bainei). What is the sound that the sheep make? In Greek the sheep bleat by saying: Baa, baa.
